Ray Beaufils - Scottsdale, Arizona
In his own words
“I have always wanted to be a professional golfer since a young age. I played amateur golf at an elite level through the Australian Institute of Sport and the Australian National Squad. A short temper mixed with no patience pushed me into early retirement. After a six-month layoff where I was doing manual labor for the family business pulling cables, I was tricked into a round of golf with a former famous cricketer. After having 7-under through 11 holes, I was told by more than one person to give golf another try. After playing a few more amateur events here in the U.S., I turned professional in July, 2009, and earned conditional status on the Nationwide Tour (now the Web.com Tour) in 2010."
“I had always played through a funny knee injury that continued to flare up the more I tried to change my impact position. While competing on the Nationwide Tour, I finally decided to have an MRI. Come to find out I had to go under the knife to repair a tear in my left knee. Overcoming that injury has been my biggest obstacle in returning to form and regaining my confidence to make it to the PGA TOUR.”
